Enterprise Week

Postby MJR on Fri Nov 09, 2007 12:50 pm

Next week is Enterprise Week and Thursday is Social Enterprise Day - what are you doing next week? Are you holding your own event, or going along to someone else's? What do you hope to get out of it?

The enterprise week web site is http://www.enterpriseweek.org/

Text taken from our flyer:

To celebrate Social Enterprise Day 2007, The Social Enterprise
People is organising an all-day creative business planning event called ‘Opposites Attract’. The event will bring together two
contrasting approaches to organisational and business development:

2.Access to specialist social enterprise business advisers to discuss ideas to help your social business grow

There will be a business adviser available for appointments from 10am - 3pm

A buffet networking lunch will run from 12.30pm

The Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely
The Maltings, Ship Lane, Ely

Social Enterprise East of England are also holding a Gala Dinner in the evening, and are running a Photo Competition (the results are announced at the Dinner)

So it all starts at 10am? Is it appointment-only or open-door?

I went to a non-existant event yesterday... http://mjr.towers.org.uk/blog/2007/business#tueentweek

No. It seems that there aren't any events here and my main co-op is too small/late to organise one. As well as kicking off this thread and similar ones in a few other places, I asked Cooperatives-UK twice and was twice told that they'll be in touch, but I've heard nothing more. There's nothing on their events page, anyway. Cooperatives-SW were asked(/told?) to leave it to RISE-SW, but the only event RISE-SW are advertising today is in London. Local council doesn't even mention Enterprise Week, so I guess they're not doing anything for it.

There's a creative industries event advertised in Taunton, but I'm still tired and grouchy (and a bit ill) after Tuesday's wild goose chase, so I think I'll rest up, get some work done and see if we can launch some new web sites today.

Good luck with Opposites Attract, though!

MJR - I am sorry you have not had a good week with this. It is really not good when advertised events do not go ahead without anyout any notice!

The day went really well here (I have to say at this point I was in the office all day, and others were at the events)

The art workshop went well, with some good thoughtful masterpieces being made.

The networking lunch was well attended, and was a constructive time.

5 people came for individual business advice.

Reports back from Social Enterprise East of England's gala dinner have also been positive, with a good number of people attending a good event.

Glad it went well for you.

Three more developments for me since I last wrote - firstly I didn't go to Taunton yesterday, which is probably just as well, because they evacuated the town centre.

Secondly, Cooperatives-SW published the brochure to opinion formers yesterday, which I'd forgotten was going to happen. Shame we didn't do more IMO, but it's nice to see some good news.

Thirdly, I emailed the listed organiser of that missing event expressing my disappointment that the event didn't happen and got a reply that it did and went well according to reports, but they were in the office all day, not at the event, or something like that. ;-) I replied asking them if they had many external visitors and whether they got the info pack I left for them - still waiting for a reply to that one...
